Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner-designate to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has met Chief of Army Staff of India General Upendra Dwivedi and discussed issues of mutual interest, including border security and military-to-military cooperation, between Bangladesh and India. “The interaction focused on strengthening India-Bangladesh defence ties, border security and enhancing military-to-military engagement,” the Indian Army said in a Facebook post on Friday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, a diplomatic source revealed that the meeting took place on Thursday. On April 27, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced the appointment of Dinesh Trivedi as the next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly, most probably early next month, a diplomatic source told UNB.

Outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. He will travel to Brussels directly from Dhaka later this month. Dinesh Trivedi served as Union Minister for Railways and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare during the UPA regime as a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He resigned from the TMC on February 12, 2021, and joined the BJP on March 6, 2021.
