AZM Zahid Inaugurates IRRI-Boro Procurement in Ghoraghat

Ghoraghat: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain today inaugurated the IRRI-Boro paddy and rice procurement programme for the current season in Ghoraghat upazila here. The minister formally began the procurement activities at the Raniganj Food Warehouse in the afternoon.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized that the government is directly conducting paddy and rice procurement activities to ensure that farmers receive fair prices. He highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating it would not only benefit farmers but also play a crucial role in ensuring the country’s food security. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to securing fair prices for agricultural yields.



The event saw the presence of several local dignitaries including Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abdul Al Mamun Kawshar Sheikh, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Rafiquzzaman, Ghoraghat-Hakimpur Assistant Superintendent of Police A N M Niamat Ullah, Upazila Food Controller Nahida Akter, and Ghoraghat Upazila BNP President Shah Md Shamim Hossain Chowdhury. Leaders of the BNP and its associate bodies, local farmers, and millers were also in attendance.



The Upazila Food Office has set a target for Boro paddy procurement in the upazila at 646 metric tonnes for the current season. Additionally, a target has been established to procure 1,478 metric tonnes of rice from 84 milling machines in the upazila.
