Two BracU Students Drown in Munshiganj Pond

Munshiganj: Two students of BRAC University died after drowning in a pond in the Deobhog area of Munshiganj town here today. The deceased were identified as Labib Wadi Sopan, 24, son of late Mostakur Rahman of West Deobhog area under Sadar Upazila, and Ajwat Tawseef, 22, a resident of Dhaka.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Muhammad Shafiqul Islam reported that 15 students from the sixth semester of the CSE Department at BRAC University had traveled to Munshiganj to visit their friend Labib Wadi Sopan’s house. After having lunch, Sopan and Tawseef, along with some local friends, went to a nearby pond to take a bath.



The incident occurred when Ajwat Tawseef slipped and began to drown. In an attempt to save him, Labib Wadi Sopan jumped into the water. Tragically, both of them went missing underwater. Local residents later rescued the two and transported them to Sadar General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the on-duty doctor.



Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Mominul Islam confirmed the incident, which has left the university community and local residents in mourning.
