Dhaka: Seven more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. During this same period, 1,631 patients were admitted to hospitals with measles and related symptoms, highlighting the ongoing health crisis affecting the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed this information today in a press release. The release detailed that the number of suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours stood at 1,423. From March 15 to May 21, the total number of suspected measles cases has reached a staggering 59,279.
The report further indicated that 208 confirmed measles cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 8,275 since March 15. In this period, 46,407 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized, while 42,336 patients have been discharged after recovery.
In a concerning development, four deaths were reported from suspected measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from suspected measles to 405 since March 15. Additionally, three deaths were confirmed as measles, increasing the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 83.
The Dhaka division has been particularly affected, recording the highest number of suspected cases at 28,599, with 5,795 confirmed measles cases. This data underscores the critical need for continued vigilance and healthcare efforts to combat the spread of measles in the region.
