Dhaka: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underscored the need for waging a strong social movement alongside the application of law to prevent the social menace of rape. In a Facebook post from his verified page, he strongly condemned the recent rape incidents, describing them as a sign of moral degradation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul described the incidents of rape, child abuse, and murder as not being isolated events but rather a horrifying reflection of years of moral decay, social irresponsibility, and the rapid decline of human values. He emphasized the government's commitment to making every possible effort against this inhumane crime.
Fakhrul, who is also the BNP secretary general, stated that the government is committed to continuing comprehensive efforts against this crime. However, he stressed that only laws or government initiatives are not sufficient. "What is needed is a strong national social movement," he said, urging families, schools, madrasas, teachers, religious leaders, the media, social organizations, and every citizen to come forward.
He highlighted the importance of teaching children about respect, humanity, responsibility, and the dignity of women. Ensuring the safety of children, he noted, is tantamount to securing the future of Bangladesh. "Let us all join together in this struggle for change," he urged.
