Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that exemplary punishment would be ensured swiftly in the rape and murder case of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Dhaka's Pallabi area. He stated that police are set to expedite the investigation and submit the charge sheet as soon as possible. This assurance was given during a press conference at the Home Ministry's conference room at the Secretariat.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Minister emphasized that following the submission of the charge sheet, the remaining legal procedures fall under the jurisdiction of the Law Ministry. Efforts are being made to ensure that justice is delivered promptly. The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts by the police to apprehend criminals who have long evaded law enforcement.
Earlier in the day, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner to submit the investigation report within a week. He stated that measures will be taken to expedite the trial proceedings in the case, reiterating the government's commitment to ensuring a swift trial.
The horrific incident involved Ramisa, a Class-II student, who was brutally murdered by a neighbor, Sohel Rana, in Pallabi. The suspect reportedly lured the child into his room, where he committed the crime. Her body was discovered beneath the bed, with her head found in a bucket in the bathroom.
While locals detained Sohel's wife, Swapna Akter, the suspect initially escaped by cutting through a window grille but was later apprehended in Fatullah of Narayanganj. On Wednesday, Sohel confessed to his crimes before a Dhaka court.
