Dhaka: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced Bangladesh's intention to seek deeper engagement from American investors and institutions, including the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), with a focus on sectors like infrastructure, energy, digital connectivity, logistics, and services.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Chowdhury expressed Bangladesh's eagerness for increased American investment and a stronger supply chain partnership between the two nations. He emphasized the desire for enhanced cooperation between universities, researchers, entrepreneurs, and diaspora communities in the United States while speaking as the chief guest at the US National Day reception at the United Convention Center in Dhaka. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen hosted the event, which was attended by ministers, political leaders, diplomats, business leaders, journalists, and civil society members.
The celebration focused on the theme "Revolutionary America," paying homage to the nation's struggle for independence and democratic values. In honor of America's 250th anniversary, Ambassador Christensen launched 50 red, white, and blue rickshaws to symbolize the strong US-Bangladesh partnership.
The Finance Minister highlighted the long-standing diplomatic, trade, and educational exchanges between Bangladesh and the United States. He reiterated the shared responsibility to deepen this partnership for future generations, expressing confidence in the promising future of Bangladesh-US relations.
US Ambassador Christensen remarked that "America First" does not equate to American isolationism, citing the recent Boeing and Biman Airlines deal as an example of beneficial cooperation. He stressed that this agreement signifies American investment in Bangladesh's aviation sector, encompassing pilot and system development.
The US and Bangladesh have recently signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in energy, facilitating millions of dollars in energy projects. This agreement, signed by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, aims to enhance Bangladesh's energy security, industrial development, and fuel diversification. Secretary Wright emphasized the US commitment to global energy security and strengthening partnerships.
The MoU establishes a framework for expanded cooperation in energy infrastructure, fuel diversification, and supply chain sustainability. It aims to increase Bangladesh's imports of US energy products while supporting industrial development and economic growth. Secretary Wright highlighted the significance of this agreement in advancing US-Bangladesh relations and promoting global energy security.
Ambassador Christensen underscored the shared values and strong diplomatic ties between the US and Bangladesh. He quoted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's congratulations to Bangladesh on its independence day, emphasizing the mutual commitment to a free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
In his remarks, Ambassador Christensen also addressed the importance of preparedness in protecting lives and tackling global challenges. He highlighted collaborative efforts in health security and emphasized the significance of mutually beneficial policies.
Ambassador Christensen concluded by reflecting on the US Declaration of Independence, underscoring its global inspiration and the fundamental rights it asserts for all people. He invited attendees to explore the American Founders Museum, showcasing the nation's history, and announced plans for the museum's expansion within Bangladesh.
