Dhaka: Members of the Health Sector Reform Commission, led by its chief Professor Dr. A K Azad Khan, today met Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain. The meeting, held at the conference room of the Health Ministry, focused on implementing the commission's recommendations to improve the country's healthcare system.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, commission members expressed their readiness to provide full cooperation to ensure improved healthcare services, enhanced accountability, patient safety, and a more people-oriented health system. They emphasized the need for increased allocation in the health sector budget to strengthen primary healthcare services and ensure effective implementation at the grassroots level.
The commission highlighted that a robust primary healthcare system would help reduce patient pressure on tertiary hospitals, lower treatment costs, and ease the overall burden on specialized facilities. Key issues discussed included digital health services, institutional accountability, doctors' security, and improvement of service quality.
The health minister assured the delegation that the government would gradually take steps to implement the commission's recommendations. Commission members, including Professor Syed Akram Hossain, Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali, M M Reza, and Dr. Azharul Islam, were present at the meeting.
