Dhaka: Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the economic capacity of farmers, recognizing their crucial role in the nation’s socio-economic development. Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “National Budget 2026-27: Sustainable Development of Agriculture in Bangladesh,” held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium in Dhaka, the minister underscored the necessity of improving farmers’ living standards for sustainable national growth.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association (BAEA) and chaired by its President Ahsanuzzaman Lintu. The minister revealed that the government’s “Farmer Card” initiative, currently in its pilot phase, aims to address these challenges by aligning production with real demand, reducing waste, and ensuring better outcomes for both farmers and consumers. He emphasized the critical role of agricultural research in advancing the sector, pointing out that while increased budget allocations are important, the effective utilization of existing resources is equally necessary.

He also announced plans for special recognition of innovation and research achievements in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors. Furthermore, the government is focused on modernizing agriculture through structured planning, scientific methods, expanded crop varieties, mechanization, and improved marketing systems. The minister reiterated that strengthening farmers’ economic resilience would ultimately s

State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku emphasized the importance of strengthening agriculture, livestock, and poultry sectors along with improving the economic condition of marginalized groups for overall economic development. State Minister Md. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki mentioned the development of a national economic recovery strategy, which outlines a three-phase approach-recovery, reconstruction, and transformation-with the goal of achieving a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
