Safipur: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday urged members of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP to carry out their duties with discipline and strict adherence to the chain of command, warning that even the slightest lapse in discipline could erode public confidence in the force.
According to United News of Bangladesh, speaking at the 46th National Rally of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP) at the Ansar-VDP Academy in Safipur of Kaliakair upazila, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that through dedication, discipline, professionalism, and patriotism, the force will evolve into a ‘technology-driven humanitarian social force’ in the future.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the essential principles of ‘chain of command’ and ‘discipline’ for any force to be truly disciplined. He noted that any negligence in these areas could create a crisis of confidence among the public regarding the force.
He also highlighted the Ansar-VDP’s transformation into a multidimensional and people-oriented force, attributing its success to professionalism, public engagement, and contributions to grassroots security and social development. Rahman recalled the force’s crucial role during national crises, notably during the post-uprising situation on August 5, 2024, when Ansar-VDP members provided critical security support.
The Prime Minister praised the force’s role in maintaining law and order, as well as its active participation in social awareness campaigns, disaster management, and technology-based services. He commended the force for its employment and skill development initiatives, including freelancing, digital marketing, Japanese language, and technical training programs.
Rahman acknowledged the timely initiative of using AVJOBS software and AI applications to create local and overseas employment opportunities. He further praised the force’s role as a reliable ‘first responder’ during disasters, highlighting its courage and humanitarian contributions.
The Prime Minister also noted the Ansar-VDP’s environment-friendly initiatives, such as rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and biogas plants. He mentioned the ongoing deployment of 16 out of 47 Ansar battalions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the contribution of around 52,000 integrated Ansar members in protecting vital infrastructures across the country.
Rahman emphasized the force’s efforts in strengthening harmony among ethnic communities in the hill districts through the work of over 13,000 Hill Ansar and Hill VDP members. He also spoke about the force’s social role in combating child marriage, violence against women, and drug abuse.
The Prime Minister recalled the force’s sporting achievements, including winning the Independence Award in 2004 and consecutive championships in the Bangladesh Games. He noted the government’s support for Ansar-VDP athletes through a special sports card program.
Reflecting on the force’s historical contributions, Rahman remembered the participation of around 40,000 Ansar members in the Liberation War, paying tribute to the 670 members who embraced martyrdom.
He highlighted the force’s human resource development initiatives and the government’s development plans, including the finalization of key draft regulations and plans to strengthen upazila-level activities.
During his visit, the Prime Minister toured various training and production activities at the academy, receiving briefings on member activities. Earlier, he was welcomed by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar-VDP Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, and Senior Secretary of Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, after placing a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial.
