Brazilian Ambassador Explores Trade Opportunities with Bangladesh Minister

Dhaka: Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh Paulo Fernando Dias Feres today met with Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid at the latter’s office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral trade in the fisheries, livestock, and agriculture sectors between the two nations.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussions covered a range of issues, including Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) certification, and international standards regarding animal health, food safety, and plant health. Both officials acknowledged the significant potential for bolstering cooperation in the livestock sector, engaging in fruitful dialogues on mutual interests.



The Ambassador expressed interest in importing meat from Brazil, prompting the Minister to highlight the need for developing the necessary infrastructure, preservation systems, and cold supply chain before proceeding with such initiatives. The Minister also mentioned that any decision would require a written proposal from Brazil followed by consultations with relevant stakeholders.



Additionally, the Minister urged Brazil to consider investing in meat processing plants in Bangladesh. He emphasized that such investments would ensure the production of internationally standard meat, facilitating exports while supplying local markets with high-quality products.



The meeting was also attended by Sultan Salauddin Tuku, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Md. Delwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry, Md. Shahjaman Khan, Director General of the Department of Livestock, and Leonardo Januzzi, Deputy Head of the Brazilian Mission.
