Gazipur: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today announced that the foundation stone of the National Disaster Management Research and Training Institute will be laid tomorrow in Gazipur. The minister informed journalists about it during a briefing at his ministry’s conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister explained that the institute aims to create trained personnel to reduce disaster risks through disaster management and training. It will also conduct research on various types of disasters resulting from climate change impacts, enhance capacity in disaster management, and undertake related activities to alleviate public sufferings.
The minister further mentioned that specialized training for relevant members of all organizations related to disaster management, as well as volunteers, will be conducted through this institute. He expressed optimism that it would become one of the premier disaster research and training institutes in South Asia and globally.
An academic-cum-administrative building and a six-storey hostel building for residential training will be constructed on 8.20 acres of land within Gazipur City Corporation. In the first phase, the academic building and up to the third floor of the hostel will be constructed.
Disaster Management and Relief Deputy Minister M. Iqbal Hossain and Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, along with senior officials of the ministry, were present at the briefing.
