Dhaka: A court here today showed former state minister for Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Dipankar Talukder arrested in a case lodged over the alleged attempted murder of Gana Adhikar Parishad activist Badrul Islam Saimon in 2023. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as police produced Dipankar before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case. The court later sent him back to jail.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dipankar Talukder was arrested from the capital’s Sobhanbagh area on February 10, 2025, and was later shown arrested and taken in multiple cases filed over incidents related to the July Mass Uprising. The case statement details that BNP and its allied parties organised a grand rally in front of the party’s central office in Paltan on October 28, 2023, demanding an end to enforced disappearances, killings, and repression under the Sheikh Hasina government. Gana Adhikar Parishad and other like-minded political parties joined the rally.

Victim Badrul Islam Saimon attended the programme. The complaint alleged that the accused launched a sudden attack on the peaceful rally, during which Badrul Islam Saimon sustained bullet injuries in indiscriminate firing by the accused. He was later rescued and taken to hospital. In connection with the incident, victim Badrul Islam Saimon filed a case with Paltan Police Station on April 29, 2025, against 245 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
