Dhaka: The government has reconstituted the National Coordination Committee on Security and Social Stability with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as its chief, according to a notification issued by the cabinet division on Sunday. The notification stated that the Bangladesh government has restructured the coordination committee to ensure security and social stability across the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister will serve as the chairman of the committee, with the Home Minister acting as the vice-chairman, and the Prime Minister’s Defense Adviser taking the role of chief coordinator. The committee also includes key officials such as the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, the Inspector General of Police, and directors general from various intelligence and security agencies.
The notification clarified that the committee’s mandate includes determining crucial issues and the scope of work related to security and social stability. It will formulate a comprehensive action plan on relevant matters and assess the current security and social stability situation of the country. Furthermore, the committee is tasked with determining priorities on various important issues and supervising inter-agency implementation to enhance coordination among intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
The committee will also engage in reviewing existing laws and regulations, recommending necessary amendments, and formulating new rules to ensure a robust framework for security and stability. It will take measures to supervise all relevant sectors and online platforms, ensuring necessary coordination and communication between involved agencies.
Committee meetings will be convened as required, and the committee has the authority to co-opt heads of armed forces or other relevant officers for specific periods when necessary. The NSI will provide the essential manpower and infrastructure support for the committee’s secretariat, ensuring it functions efficiently to meet its objectives.
