Bandarban: A fire destroyed around 47 shops and dwelling houses at Baghmara Bazar under Jamchari union in Sadar upazila of Bandarban early Sunday. The blaze ignited at a shop around 4:00 am and quickly spread to adjacent shops and homes, according to Jamchari Union Parishad Chairman Kyasing Shai Marma.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the fire initially resisted efforts by locals to contain it due to the high flammability of materials and the close proximity of the structures. Four firefighting units were eventually deployed and managed to control the blaze after nearly three hours of intense effort, stated Abdullah Mannan Ansari, acting assistant director of Bandarban Fire Service and Civil Defence station.

The traders affected by the fire estimated their losses to be around Tk 2 crore. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electric short circuit. This incident follows a similar fire event on February 8, 2022, which destroyed 13 shops and two houses in the same Baghmara market.
