Bogura: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku announced today that law enforcement agencies, including Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local administrations, have been instructed to enhance surveillance and implement effective measures to stop the illegal entry of cattle through border areas from neighboring countries. This directive was made during a seminar titled “Sustainable Livestock Development: Modern Farm Management, Market Linkage and Value Chain,” held at Momo Inn Convention Centre in Bogura.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting local farmers’ interests and ensuring the sustainable development of the livestock sector. Tuku noted that due to increased domestic production, Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in meeting the demand for sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha. He highlighted that the country currently has over 1.23 crore livestock animals, with a surplus of around 22 lakh compared to the expected demand, eliminating the need to import cattle for Eid.

Tuku further explained that the growing production presents a strong potential for developing the livestock sector into an export-oriented industry. He underscored the importance of modern farm management, safe production, improved animal healthcare, and stronger market linkages. Additionally, he mentioned that the government is working to ensure fair prices for farmers while keeping sacrificial animals affordable for consumers, with various support measures such as subsidies, incentives, and agricultural cards being implemented to reduce production costs.

The seminar, chaired by Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahjaman Khan, also saw the inauguration of the newly constructed district slaughterhouse and livestock office building. Bogura-6 MP Md Rezaul Karim Badsha and Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Delwar Hossain attended as special guests.
