Rajshahi: On the occasion of World Hypertension Day 2026, the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute in Rajshahi organized a series of public-oriented programs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this year’s theme, ‘Let’s control high blood pressure together; defeat the silent killer,’ was prominently featured during the event. The Chief Guest, Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid, Divisional Commissioner, inaugurated a rally this morning, marking the start of a five-day program offering free ECG, diabetes tests, and medical services.
In his speech, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the reputation the National Heart Foundation Hospital has gained for providing cardiac care to marginalized communities. He emphasized that the free medical services will benefit the region’s residents and contribute to raising awareness about the dangers of high blood pressure.
The event also included a seminar and discussion session, where Dr. Habibur Rahman, Director (Health) of Rajshahi Division, served as chief guest, and Dr. S I M Raziul Karim, Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi, was the special guest. The seminar, presented by Dr. Molla Iftekhar Hossain and Dr. A.S.M. Sayem, featured a keynote address by Professor Dr. Rois Uddin, Chief Consultant and Director (Medical Services) at the Foundation Hospital.
General Secretary Khandaker Mizanur Rahman Khokon gave a welcome speech, expressing gratitude for the organized event. Abdul Mannan, President of the Executive Council, presided over the seminar, where speakers underscored the severe health impacts of high blood pressure, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, and kidney damage.
They advocated for lifestyle improvements, such as incorporating fish and vegetables into diets, regular walking, reducing salt intake, managing stress, and avoiding smoking and drug use. Executive Council Vice President-2 Hasen Ali praised the organization of the event.
Chief Guest Dr. Habibur Rahman emphasized the necessity of public awareness for preventing and controlling high blood pressure and encouraged the Foundation to enhance its patient-friendly services. In his closing remarks, the President reiterated the Foundation Hospital’s commitment to raising awareness through informational leaflets, as well as supporting poor patients via the hospital’s Zakat Fund.
Professor Md. Habibur Rahman, Director (Administration and Finance) of the Foundation, stated that the hospital is becoming a trusted center for cardiac care in Rajshahi and aims to offer more affordable treatment soon. Cooperation from all parties was solicited to achieve this goal.
The seminar, moderated by Executive Member Enamul Haque and Medical Officer Dr. Khadijatul Kubra, reported that on the first day of the five-day service program, over 100 patients received treatment.
