Pabna: At least 70 students fell sick during class hours at a school in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, causing panic among students and teachers. The incident took place around 2:00 pm at Muladuli High School when students of Class-VI started feeling unwell shortly after their midday break.
According to United News of Bangladesh, initial reports suggest that two students first became unwell after noticing a strong smell coming from a plastic container found inside the classroom. Subsequently, more students from the same class began to feel sick one after another. The situation escalated as several students from classes VII and VIII also reportedly fell ill due to panic.
School authorities quickly contacted the Fire Service, who arrived at the scene and rescued the affected students. They were subsequently admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, as stated by its Medical Officer Dr. Kaveri Saha. Acting headteacher of Muladuli High School, Basna Rani, mentioned that two students initially showed symptoms, which included dizziness, headache, and nausea among many others.
A plastic container was discovered in the classroom, which doctors suspect may have contained lice-killing medicine. Several students have since recovered, as noted by the acting headteacher.
