Prof A K M Motinur Rahman Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University

Kushtia: Professor Dr A K M Motinur Rahman from the Department of Public Administration has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia. A notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education confirmed the appointment on Wednesday.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the appointment was made under Section 10(1) of the Islamic University Act, 1980, with the approval of the President, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university. Prof Motinur Rahman will serve a four-year term from the date of joining, during which he will receive salary, allowances, and benefits equivalent to his current position. He is required to reside full-time on the campus as the chief executive officer of the university.



The notification specifies that the President and Chancellor hold the authority to cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary. Prof Motinur Rahman is a seasoned academic, having previously served in various academic and administrative roles at the university. His educational background includes Honours and Master’s degrees from the Department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka, an M.A. in International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and a PhD under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Islamic University, Bangladesh.



Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, Prof Motinur Rahman held several significant administrative roles at the university, such as Press Administrator, Hall Provost, Proctor, Departmental Chairman, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In his political career, he is recognized as a BNP-aligned academic and is currently the Senior Vice President of the University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) and the Convener of the Islamic University Shada Dal.
