PM Tarique Rahman Seeks OIC Support on Rohingya Crisis

Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today sought support from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states to address the ongoing Rohingya crisis. This appeal was made during a courtesy call at the Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, where ambassadors and high commissioners of OIC member states stationed in Dhaka met with the Prime Minister.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the OIC envoys congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his recent assumption of office. They reiterated their commitment to standing alongside Bangladesh and emphasized their intention to enhance cooperation in areas like investment, trade, education, healthcare, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for their support on behalf of the Bangladeshi government and its people.



Prime Minister Rahman also took the opportunity to reflect on the historical ties between Bangladesh and the OIC member nations, established during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He expressed optimism about further strengthening these relationships in the future.



The meeting was attended by envoys from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Trkiye, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, along with heads of mission from Iran, Iraq, and Libya. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, Secretary at the Foreign Affairs Ministry M Forhadul Islam, and Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman were also present.
