Dhaka: The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) has accepted a research project submitted by Professor Md. Israfil for funding for the fiscal year 2025-2026.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the UGC confirmed the funding in a letter sent recently to Prof Israfil. The research, titled ‘Participatory Cultural Interventions as Tools of Rehabilitation: Exploring the Impact of Storytelling, Folk Dance, Singing, Recitation, Performance, and Sports on Juvenile Delinquency in Bangladesh’s Correctional Facilities’, aims to explore the effectiveness of cultural activities as rehabilitative tools for juvenile delinquents.
The UGC expressed its support and wished Prof Israfil success in this research endeavour, highlighting the significance of the project in addressing juvenile delinquency in correctional facilities.
Prof Israfil, who is a professor in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University, has also taken on a new role as the founder vice-chancellor of Thakurgaon University. He officially assumed his position as vice-chancellor on May 7, 2026.
