Dhaka: Prime Minister's Education Adviser Mahdi Amin emphasized the importance of developing a skilled, capable, and responsible young generation to build a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh. Speaking at a national workshop titled 'Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence' at the University of Dhaka, Amin highlighted the necessity of a modern and inclusive education system.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Amin described education as the backbone of the nation, noting that Bangladesh's large youth population presents a significant demographic opportunity. Addressing academics, policymakers, and dignitaries, he urged the utilization of wisdom, intellect, creativity, and guidance to strengthen a democratic Bangladesh and ensure people's empowerment.
Amin acknowledged the historical role of Dhaka University in major political transformations in Bangladesh, including the July uprising. He noted that the government, formed through a 'free, fair and acceptable election' three months ago, is working to fulfill its electoral pledges under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership.
He stressed the need to modernize the education system and integrate civic values, technological skills, and professional competence into educational institutions. Amin highlighted the role of researchers, teachers, and education experts in implementing the government's development plans through research, policy advice, and methodological innovation.
Outlining the government's future vision, Amin discussed a technology-driven welfare system aimed at improving citizens' lives. He mentioned that farmers would receive subsidies and agricultural support through digital farmer cards and that modern technology and weather forecasting tools would enhance agricultural productivity.
He also spoke about plans to introduce E-health cards to ensure treatment access through public-private partnerships, allowing patients in remote areas to receive healthcare services without cost under government schemes. Amin said the government aims to improve teachers' status and skills through initiatives like the 'One Teacher, One Tab' program, providing digital devices and international-standard training to educators.
He concluded by stating that the government wants to ensure that future generations are equipped to compete globally through a modernized and digitized curriculum. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman opened the workshop and delivered a speech, while the inaugural session was presided over by University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed, who presented a crest to Rahman.
