PM to Inaugurate National Workshop on Education Reform at Dhaka University

Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a daylong national workshop on higher education at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University at 10am tomorrow. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is organizing the workshop titled ‘Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: A Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence’ to modernize and sustain the country’s higher education system.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this marks the premier’s first official visit to his alma mater since assuming office. UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed shared details about the workshop during a press conference at the UGC conference room. He stated that the workshop aims to enhance the quality of higher education and develop skilled human resources that can compete internationally.



Professor Mamun Ahmed mentioned that the event will influence government plans and policy directions regarding higher education. The workshop seeks to gather opinions from participants to formulate a practical policy roadmap for reforming higher education.



The inaugural session, chaired by the UGC chairman, will be attended by Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and Prime Minister’s Education Affairs Adviser Mahdi Amin. Following the opening, five technical sessions will cover topics such as graduate employability, industry-academia collaboration, digital transformation, faculty development, and governance reform. Discussions and recommendations will be formulated on these issues.



The closing ceremony will feature DU Vice-Chancellor Prof A B M Obaidul Islam as the chief guest. Special guests will include BUET Prof Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, North South University VC Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, and State University of Bangladesh VC Prof Md. Akhter Hossain Khan.
