Mumbai: A Mymensingh court on Sunday: convicted three siblings and sentenced them to life imprisonment for killing a man in 2008. Judge Farzana Ahmed of the Mymensingh Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 handed down the punishment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convicts are Shahbaz Mia, 58, Md Rafiqul Islam, 53, and Hanifa, 50, all from Gafargaon upazila. The court also fined them Tk 30,000 each, with a default penalty of six additional months in prison.
The prosecution stated that on August 10, 2008, several children were playing football in a jujube orchard near Nurul Haque’s house in Shilasi village of Gafargaon upazila. The football accidentally struck the tin fence of Nurul Haque’s house, which angered him. He then stopped the children from playing and dispersed them from the area.
In retaliation, Shahbaz and his family members, armed with sharp weapons, invaded Nurul’s house and attacked him, leaving him critically injured. Nurul was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.
Kajol Mia, Nurul’s son, filed a case with the Gafargaon Police Station. Subsequently, the police submitted a chargesheet against six individuals. After reviewing the records and hearing the witnesses, the court acquitted the other three accused as the charges against them were not substantiated.
