Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Abdus Salam today emphasized that research should expand through international collaboration and foreign funding rather than relying solely on internal resources. Prof Salam highlighted this approach as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Advances in Functional Nanomaterials,” which took place at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was organized by the Nanotechnology Center of the University of Dhaka. Prof Salam stated that the country should advance by leveraging the diverse applications of nanotechnology in areas such as environmental protection, modern healthcare systems, and the electronics sector. He also discussed the need to transform DU into a world-class research institution by not only disseminating knowledge but also creating new knowledge. He stressed the importance of fostering an environment conducive to research to achieve this goal.
The inaugural session was presided over by Center Director Prof Dr Farida Begum, with Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Md Mofazzal Hossain attending as the special guest. Papers were presented by Prof Dr Mohammad Mizanur from the Department of Physics and Prof Dr Md Ahsan Habib from the Department of Chemistry during the seminar.
The Nanotechnology Center at the University of Dhaka aims to achieve scientific and technological self-reliance and public welfare through the application, adaptation, expansion, and innovation of nanotechnology across various industrial and service sectors in Bangladesh. The center is expected to play a significant role in advancing nanotechnology-based research in the country.
