Naogaon: Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday accused a 'frustrated' group of attempting to create instability in society. Speaking at an event to mark the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindra Kachari Bari in Patisar village, Atrai upazila, Fakhrul remarked on the persistent disappointment of this unnamed group and its efforts to disturb societal peace.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Fakhrul, who also serves as BNP Secretary General, refrained from naming any specific group. He expressed his discontent with the current state of politics in the country, noting that despite repeated struggles and sacrifices for change, the desired transformation has not been realized. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War as central to the national identity and acknowledged the difficult struggle for independence and democracy.
Fakhrul recalled the July uprising when the youth fought for change and emphasized the hopes pinned on the new government following recent elections. He criticized 'fascist forces' for damaging the economy, banking sector, and administration, attributing the current state to a struggle against these forces. He warned against attempts to create unrest over minor issues, underscoring a collective desire to avoid further instability.
The minister also lauded Rabindranath Tagore's contributions beyond literature, highlighting his efforts for farmers' welfare in Patisar, including the establishment of a bank and modern farming methods. Tagore's universal impact through his works, such as Gitanjali, was also noted.
The event was chaired by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid and included speeches from Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, former Ambassador M Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, and local lawmakers.
