Dhaka: The government has officially established a dedicated seven-member cell within the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to expedite the implementation of programmes promised by Members of Parliament (MPs). This initiative, announced through a notification from the PMO, is set to be operational with immediate effect.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the newly formed cell aims to ensure the swift and effective execution of these promised programmes, enhance inter-ministerial coordination, and uphold transparency and accountability. The cell will be chaired by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, with the Prime Minister’s Protocol Officer-1 serving as the member secretary.
The cell’s composition includes key figures such as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary-2, the relevant director at the PMO, the Prime Minister’s Assignment Officer-1, and the Prime Minister’s Research Officer. The notification outlined the cell’s responsibilities, including the receipt and compilation of demand letters related to MPs’ programmes and maintaining them in a database.
Furthermore, the cell will conduct initial scrutiny of proposed programmes, evaluate their relevance and feasibility, prioritize them based on public interest, and forward recommendations to pertinent ministries, divisions, or offices for implementation. It will work in close coordination with these entities to ensure proper execution of approved projects at the field level, offer necessary directions, and monitor and review progress.
Additionally, the cell is tasked with regularly updating authorities on its activities and the progress of programme implementations. The notification also mentioned the possibility of incorporating additional representatives or manpower from relevant ministries, divisions, or offices to offer technical and administrative support as needed.
