Dhaka: A four-day cultural programme celebrating the 165th birth anniversary of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore is set to commence at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy tomorrow. The event will feature a variety of performances including songs, dance, and recitations from Tagore’s extensive body of work.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inaugural ceremony will take place at the National Theatre Hall with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attending as the chief guest. State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin will serve as the special guest. The programme will also include a keynote presentation by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam. The event is organized by Shilpakala Academy with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and will be presided over by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general and poet Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin.
The programme continues on Saturday with Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni attending as the chief guest at the National Theatre Hall. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom will be the special guest. The third day will feature Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury as the chief guest. A cultural programme showcasing Tagore’s songs, dances, and recitations will be held at 5:30 pm, preceded by the inauguration of an art exhibition titled “Rabi in Paintings, Paintings of Rabi” at Gallery-2 of the National Art Gallery building.
The art exhibition will be open daily from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm until May 23, organized by the Fine Arts Department. The closing ceremony on Monday will feature BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and political adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as the chief guest. The event will conclude with a performance of the play “Achalayatan” by theatre troupe Prachyanat, directed by Azad Abul Kalam.
In addition to the events at Shilpakala Academy, district units across the country will hold discussions and activities to commemorate Tagore and his contributions to literature and culture. All events will be open to the public, offering an opportunity to engage with and celebrate the legacy of the great poet.
