Dhaka: A 12-member delegation led by Prof. Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), China, visited Dhaka University (DU) to meet with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam today. The meeting was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor himself.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the delegation included other prominent academics such as Prof. Duan Xingwu, Vice President of Yunnan University, Prof. Fan Daqi, Vice President of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, Prof. Lv Peiming, Vice President of Tongji University, and Prof. Wu Jian, Vice President of East China Normal University, among others. These officials represented various universities across China.
Following the initial meeting, the delegation participated in the plenary meeting of the Academic Board of the Centre for China Studies at Dhaka University. This session took place in the Vice-Chancellor’s meeting room, with notable attendees including Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Abdus Salam, Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Prof. A.M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali University of Science and Technology Prof. Mohammad Ismail, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, and Director of the Office of International Affairs of DU Prof. Syeda Rozana Rashid.
During the discussions, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam expressed his intent to enhance academic and research collaborations with Chinese universities. He emphasized the importance of bolstering ongoing joint academic and research programs, faculty and student exchange initiatives, and training programs to create more learning opportunities for the youth.
