Dhaka: What was meant to restore order in the bustling commercial hub of Gulistan in Dhaka has instead turned into another layer of urban chaos. Following the eviction of street vendors, authorities marked designated sitting spots with white paint to bring discipline to the sidewalks. But the initiative has failed to take hold.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the clearly drawn lines, once intended for hawkers, are now occupied by rows of illegally parked motorcycles and private cars. A visit to the area shows that vehicles have taken over the marked spaces, leaving little room for vendors to return or operate. As a result, many hawkers remain displaced, while pedestrians are forced to navigate through congested and obstructed walkways.
