Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking permission to initiate legal proceedings against 16 individuals, including Prof Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, and former Law Adviser Asif Nazrul. The case is related to a military aircraft crash at Milestone School and College, which resulted in the deaths of 36 people, including 28 students.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Advocate AKM Sharif Uddin, representing the plaintiff, confirmed that Judge Ariful Islam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court rejected the petition. Earlier, Usaimong Marma, the father of one of the slain students, Ukkya Saing Marma, had filed the petition with the court.
The petition also named other individuals, such as former Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Air Commanding Officer Morshed Mohammad Khayer Ul Afsar, Officer Commanding Maintenance Group Captain Rifat Akter Ziku, and Adviser of the Governing Body of Milestone School and College, Nurnabi (retd). Additional figures cited in the petition include the Principal of the college Mohammad Ziaul Alam, Principal (Administration) Md Masud Alam, Principal (School section) Rifat Nabi, Chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Field Supervisor (Uttara), former secretary of Education Ministry Zubayer, former secretary of Defence Ministry, former Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and former press secretary of the interim government Shafiqul Alam.
The tragic incident occurred on July 21 of the previous year, when an FT-7 BGI fighter jet tragically crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara. A subsequent investigation was conducted, and on November 5, a probe body submitted its report to former Chief Adviser Prof Yunus.
