Jamalpur: A tribunal in Jamalpur has sentenced three men to death for the gang rape of a teenage girl in the district in 2024. The verdict was delivered by Judge Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convicted individuals are Md Shipon, aged 21, Md Ibrahim, aged 27, and Yusuf Ali, aged 22. All three hail from Shildah village in Islampur upazila. In addition to the death penalty, the tribunal imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on each of the convicts, directing that the amount be provided to the survivor of the rape.
The prosecution detailed that the teenage victim was initially lured by her neighbor, Sadik, with a promise of marriage. On April 19, 2024, Sadik took her to a nearby jungle where he raped her. When the three convicts arrived at the scene, Sadik fled, leaving the girl vulnerable. The three men then proceeded to rape her in turns. Once the girl fell ill, they left her outside her home during the night.
Following the incident, the victim's father lodged a complaint against four individuals, including Sadik, at the Islampur Police Station. However, after reviewing the evidence and hearing from nine witnesses, the tribunal acquitted Sadik due to insufficient proof against him.
