Beijing: Bangladesh on Wednesday sought the involvement and support of China in the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project (TRCMRP). Both sides agreed to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthening exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as economy and trade, investment, industry, digital economy, water resources, health, and people-to-people contact.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Bangladesh expressed appreciation for China's long-standing support for its development, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions took place during the visit of Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman to China, who was invited by Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of China, from May 5 to 7. The talks in Beijing on Wednesday focused on upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, maintaining high-level exchanges, and advancing the China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The two sides engaged in detailed discussions on bilateral relations and mutual interests, reaching a broad consensus and reaffirming their commitment to supporting each other's core interests. They emphasized the authority of the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, which is beyond any challenge.
Bangladesh reiterated its adherence to the One-China Principle, affirming that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Bangladesh opposes any form of 'Taiwan independence' and supports China's goal of national reunification.
China reiterated its support for Bangladesh in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, respecting the development path independently chosen by the people of Bangladesh. Bangladesh congratulated China on the progress of its 15th Five-Year Plan and commended the initiative of building a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by President Xi Jinping.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter's purposes and principles, multilateralism, democracy in international relations, and peaceful resolution of disputes. They agreed to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization.
Bangladesh appreciated China's propositions on peace and stability in the Middle East. Both sides called for an immediate ceasefire, supporting diplomatic efforts to restore peace, ensuring the security of non-military targets, and maintaining normal passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
China committed to continuing support for Bangladesh and Myanmar in finding a solution for the forcibly displaced people from Rakhine state through dialogue and consultations, providing support for repatriation efforts.
Foreign Minister Khalilur expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Chinese government, inviting the Chinese Foreign Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
