Dashmina: More than 800 fishermen in Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali have received food assistance under the Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project aimed at supporting them during the ongoing fishing ban in designated Hilsa sanctuaries. The distribution program, organized by the Upazila Fisheries Department, was held on Wednesday morning at its premises.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mahmud Hasan Mridha presided over the programme. District Fisheries Officer Bijon Kumar Nandi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dashmina Police Station Md. Atiqul Islam, Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer (on additional duty) Tapan Majumdar, along with leaders from various local units of BNP and Gana Adhikar Parishad were present.
The Fisheries Office reported that each fisherman received a two-month food aid package consisting of 12 kg of flour, 8 kg of lentils, 16 kg of potatoes, and 10 liters of soybean oil. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the protection of the Hilsa fish breeding season while providing financial and food security support to affected fishing communities.
