Bogura: The government has officially declared several rural areas within Shibganj upazila of Bogura district as urban areas. This decision, outlined in a notification from the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, was published in the Bangladesh Gazette today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the notification reveals the government’s intention, under Section 3(1) of the Municipalities Act, 2009, to classify specific mauzas of various unions in Shibganj upazila as urban zones. The designated areas include specific parts of West Jahangirabad (JL No. 70), Jahangirabad (JL No. 71), Chandnia Shibganj (JL No. 154), Uthli (JL No. 156), Narayanpur (JL No. 157), and Sannyasi Dhondakola (JL No. 161) mauzas under Shibganj Union.
Further outlined in the schedule are R.S. plots 7001 to 7421 of Natmorichai (JL No. 72) mauza under Bihar Union, and certain plots of Achlai (JL No. 214) mauza under Raynagar Union. The notification also permits the concerned Union Parishads to submit written objections to the government within one month following the gazette publication. The government has committed to resolving any objections within three months.
This new notification repeals an earlier SRO issued on March 24, 2026 (SRO No. 73-Law/2026), marking a significant change in the administrative classification of these areas.
