Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged the divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to work impartially for the welfare of the country and its people. “The greatest asset of the state is the trust of the people. Therefore, you should work fearlessly and impartially for the welfare of the country and the people,” he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in government and administration, stating that trust gradually develops in the minds of the people through these principles. Tarique Rahman, who also serves as the ruling BNP chairman, delivered these remarks while addressing the annual conference of the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The Prime Minister assured government officials of support for any legal and humanitarian initiatives, highlighting that the administration is not only a tool for law enforcement but also a medium for public service. He expressed his belief in the potential of the country’s demographic dividend, urging officials to transform the young and working population into skilled manpower, which could significantly contribute to the nation’s development.
Addressing field-level government officials, Tarique Rahman called for a proactive approach to assisting people and preserving the religious and social values of the state and society. He emphasized that family values are integral to state values, as families form the smallest units of the state.
The BASA annual conference concluded a four-day deputy commissioners (DCs) conference, attended by key figures including Prime Minister’s spouse Zubaida Rahman, cabinet members, and chiefs of the three services. The conference also welcomed family members of association members, and the Prime Minister was honored with the association’s crest.
During the event, the Prime Minister reflected on the four-day conference, which provided DCs with updated administrative information and insights into the government’s goals, objectives, and programmes. He reiterated the importance of the government’s manifesto, which is now considered a manifesto for the people, emphasizing the public administration’s role in implementing public welfare activities.
The Prime Minister underscored the high public expectations from the current government and its commitment to fulfilling justified expectations to the best of its ability. He stressed the importance of treating citizens with respect and ensuring a positive perception of the state and government through sincere behavior and efficient service delivery.
The Prime Minister concluded his speech by emphasizing the need for a people-oriented public administration, advocating for transparent, respectful, and harassment-free services at government offices. He highlighted the significance of humane behavior alongside legal resolutions, urging officials to enhance public confidence and trust in the government system.
Following his address, Tarique Rahman participated in a cultural event and dinner, having driven himself to the venue from the Bangladesh Secretariat. The event also featured speeches by several government officials, including Prime Minister’s Adviser Md Ismail Zabihullah and State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari.
