Dhaka: A court here today ordered the seizure of tax files of former chief whip and Madaripur-1 lawmaker Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the plea of the anti-graft body stated that the former chief whip amassed illegal wealth amounting to Taka 57.49 crore and retained possession of it. Additionally, he allegedly conducted suspicious transactions worth Taka 232.11 crore through eight bank accounts.
The ACC filed the case related to these allegations on March 25, 2026. The plea emphasized that seizing Chowdhury’s tax files until the 2024-25 fiscal year is crucial for the proper investigation of these claims.
