DMP Special Court Disposes 5,500 Cases in April

Dhaka: Special Metropolitan Magistrates of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), through summary courts, disposed of a total of 5,205 criminal and 302 traffic cases in April 2026. DMP Law Officer, also a District and Sessions Judge, Mohammad Ataul Haque, reported that the cases were from various divisions, namely Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 10,155 accused were arrested in these cases. Of those, 5,894 received jail sentences and were fined over Taka 38.82 lakh. In addition, assets worth Taka 245,460 were seized. The law enforcement efforts included 57 special drives conducted throughout the month to maintain law and order.



In matters related to traffic enforcement under the Road Transport Act, 2018, authorities filed 1,470 cases. Out of these, 302 were resolved, involving 1,216 accused individuals. The enforcement actions led to the realization of fines totaling Taka 449,700, and two individuals received jail sentences.



Officials noted that the swift disposal of cases by the magistrates is expediting the judicial process, strengthening public confidence in the law, and containing criminal activities in the city.
