Bangladesh: Bangladesh and China are poised for a strengthened partnership as Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman embarks on his inaugural official visit to China from May 5-7. The visit comes at the invitation of Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to United News of Bangladesh, this visit signifies China’s intent to collaborate with Bangladesh’s new government to bolster political mutual trust, enhance exchanges and cooperation across various fields, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and fortify the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
During the visit, Dr. Rahman will engage in bilateral discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, as confirmed by a senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions are expected to cover issues of mutual interest and provide a platform for exchanging views on contemporary regional and global developments, including the Middle East situation.
Additionally, the two ministers will deliberate on the potential alignment of their development policies and strategic priorities. Dr. Rahman is also scheduled to meet Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Liu Haixing, Minister for the International Department of the Communist Party of China, will host a lunch in honor of the Bangladesh Foreign Minister, as per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accompanying the Foreign Minister will be Humaiun Kobir, Adviser for Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister, Ashiq Chowdhury, Chairman of BIDA, and other senior government officials. Bangladesh and China have maintained a long-standing friendship and close neighborly ties, being comprehensive strategic cooperative partners for over five decades.
The Chinese side emphasized the steady progress and tangible benefits of the bilateral ties, rooted in the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, mutual respect, and equality. China reiterated its commitment to prioritizing its relationship with Bangladesh.
