Dhaka: A court here today set May 17 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report on its further investigation into the sensational murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as the investigation agency failed to submit the report today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court had previously directed the CID on January 15, 2026, to conduct further investigation after the complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the probe. The complainant filed a naraji petition against the charge-sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police, seeking further investigation into the case.

Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the DB had submitted the charge-sheet on January 6 against 17 accused individuals, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. The case statement mentions that Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Hadi on December 12, 2025, while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The case was initially filed as attempted murder by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber at Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. However, following Hadi’s death on December 18, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case on December 20.
