Implement Govt’s Programmes Prioritising Public Interest: President at DC Conference 2026

Dhaka: President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Sunday called on government officials to remain committed to implementing the government’s promises, programmes, policies and development projects while prioritising public interest. He made the call while addressing the programme marking the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference 2026 at Bangabhaban.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the President emphasized the responsibility of field-level administrators to ensure that the benefits of government initiatives reach the actual beneficiaries on time. He reminded officials that they are servants of the people and urged them to actively listen to citizens’ grievances and take measures to resolve them.



He also stressed the importance of delivering quick, easy, and quality public services through information technology. Officials were encouraged to ensure the smooth delivery of services from both government and private sectors.



During the event, the President paid tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the Liberation War, acknowledging their sacrifices as a source of national inspiration. He also remembered prominent figures like Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for their contributions.



The President highlighted the significance of the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference as a bridge between policymaking and implementation. He acknowledged the high public expectations from the new government and stressed the need for a transparent and service-oriented administration to meet these expectations.



Addressing the ongoing global challenges, the President warned of energy shortages due to Middle East tensions and urged vigilance in energy management. He called for efficient use of government funds and timely implementation of development projects.



The President also addressed the misuse of technology, highlighting the spread of misinformation and its threat to national unity. He urged collaboration with civil society and law enforcement to combat such issues.



Land management, basic services delivery, and violence prevention were other key areas of focus. The President called for a modern and accountable land management system and emphasized the need to empower women and ensure youth skill development.



Finally, the President reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption and stressed the importance of transparency and professionalism in administration. He expressed confidence in the officials’ role in national development and public welfare, envisioning a developed and humane Bangladesh led by dedicated deputy commissioners.
