C’nawabganj: The recent measles outbreak in the district, which has affected the district for the past several months, is now gradually subsiding, according to health officials.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, authorities at the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital reported that the number of infected children is beginning to decline, with many patients recovering and returning home. In the last 24 hours alone, 15 children have been discharged after successful treatment, while 14 new cases were admitted.
Previously, 63 children were undergoing treatment at the hospital’s measles isolation unit. That number has now dropped to 51, indicating a slow but steady improvement in the situation.
Hospital data shows that since January, a total of 1,187 measles patients have received treatment at the facility. Tragically, seven deaths have been recorded during this period.
Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin confirmed the improving trend, stating that while the situation is stabilizing, preventive measures remain in full force. “We are seeing a positive change over the past few days, but we are continuing our efforts to control the outbreak,” he said.
To prevent further spread, special measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaigns have been intensified across several areas, including Sadar, Shibganj, and Bholahat upazilas. Health workers are conducting door-to-door visits to ensure children receive vaccinations and are also distributing vitamin A capsules to boost immunity.
Dr. Uddin urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, maintain regular vaccination schedules, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of measles appear.
Health officials remain cautiously optimistic as coordinated vaccination efforts and public awareness campaigns continue across the district.
