Dhaka: A rally organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal commenced this afternoon at Naya Paltan in the capital, marking International Workers’ Day. The event began at 2:30 pm in front of the BNP central office, drawing significant attention from workers and political figures.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to address the assembled crowd, with Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain presiding over the event. Hossain expressed expectations for a large turnout, noting that laborers from factories in districts surrounding Dhaka have traveled to join the gathering.
Despite initial challenges posed by waterlogged roads following overnight rain, the conditions improved over time, allowing attendees to make their way to the venue. Participants, wearing red caps and T-shirts and holding banners, marched in groups towards Naya Paltan, creating an energetic atmosphere with their slogans and applause.
Security measures have been heightened with personnel deployed at the rally site and surrounding areas to ensure safety. Notable figures such as BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, as well as Standing Committee members Prime Minister’s Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan and Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan, are among those present at the rally.
