Dhaka: BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the prolonged negligence and deprivation faced by the country’s working class, stating that effective initiatives must be taken to protect their rights. Fakhrul made these remarks while addressing a rally organized by the Jatiyotabdi Sramik Dal on the occasion of May Day in front of the central party office at Nayapaltan in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul Islam highlighted that the nation is beginning to recover under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, despite past challenges such as the destruction of agriculture, industry, and the banking sector. He pointed out that the working class has been the most deprived and affected group, yet they have consistently been at the forefront, willing to make sacrifices for change. Fakhrul emphasized the significance of May Day, acknowledging the sacrifices of the working class.
Fakhrul also recalled an incident from December 7, 2022, when they were barred from holding a rally in front of their office, which resulted in a violent clash where a workshop worker named Mokbul was killed. He mentioned that many workers have lost their lives during the anti-fascist movement.
Expressing gratitude towards the Prime Minister for the announcement to rehabilitate hawkers, Fakhrul noted the delight within the party as these individuals have been crucial in their movement. He also urged the Prime Minister to consider the matter of establishing minimum wages for workers and ensuring access to education and healthcare for their children.
In his remarks, Fakhrul called for government measures to improve the living standards of tea garden workers, underscoring the need for comprehensive support to uplift the working class.
