7 AL Leaders Sent to Jail in Joypurhat Over July Movement Cases

Joypurhat: A court in Joypurhat has ordered seven leaders of the Awami League to be sent to jail after they surrendered in connection with multiple cases, including a murder charge, linked to the July student-led mass movement. The leaders sought bail during their appearance at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. However, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Milon Chandra Pal denied their bail requests and instructed that they be imprisoned.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the individuals were subsequently transferred to Joypurhat District Jail under strict security measures. The leaders facing imprisonment include Fazlur Rahman, the general secretary of Kalai upazila Awami League; Abdul Kuddus Fakir, vice-president of the upazila unit and chairman of Punot Union Parishad; Rafiqul Islam, president of Jindarpur union Awami League; Ziaur Rahman, president of Kalai upazila Jubo League and chairman of Jindarpur Union Parishad; Akbar Ali, president of Ahmedabad union Awami League; Enamul Hossain Fakir, member of Kalai upazila Awami League; and former student leader Minhajur Rahman Mithun.



The confirmation of this legal action came from Advocate Shahanur Rahman Shahin, the Public Prosecutor of Joypurhat District and Sessions Judge Court.
