Five Die of Measles, Similar Symptoms in 24 Hours: DGHS

Dhaka: Five children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of the deaths reported, one was confirmed as measles-related, while four others were classified as suspected.



According to United News of Bangladesh, with these recent fatalities, the total number of confirmed deaths from measles has risen to 44, and suspected deaths stand at 220 since March 15. The DGHS data reveals that a total of 1,358 suspected measles cases were recorded in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, the cumulative number of suspected cases has surged to 33,386.



During the same 24-hour period, 90 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 4,693. The health services data further indicates that a total of 22,442 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized since March 15, with 19,018 of them recovering and being released.



Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, as efforts to curb the spread of the disease are underway. Measures are being implemented to ensure adequate healthcare facilities and resources are available to manage the increasing number of cases.
