Maheshkhali: The Matarbari Coal Power Plant in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, has resumed full-scale power generation following a brief reduction caused by technical issues.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Muhammad Saifur Rahman, Chief Engineer (PandD) of the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL), confirmed the resolution of the technical problems. He stated that minor technical issues were addressed during the holidays, particularly on Friday, which temporarily reduced the plant’s power generation.
Rahman explained that the recent decrease in power generation was part of necessary technical activities. The plant resumed full-scale power generation during peak hours starting last night. The two units of the plant are now producing over 1000 MW of power.
He further mentioned that power generation is expected to remain stable throughout the week, provided no further technical faults occur. The Matarbari Coal Power Plant is a significant 1,200 MW ultra-supercritical facility developed with substantial funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
