Jamalpur: A tribunal in Jamalpur has handed down death sentences to three individuals for the abduction and subsequent violation of a housewife in 2023. The verdict was delivered by Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convicted individuals include Bulbul Ahmed, aged 47, from Khupibari village; Kalam, also known as Makku, aged 52, from Pathalia Naubhanga Char village; and Ruku, aged 57. The prosecution detailed that on May 14, 2023, the convicts abducted the victim from Naobhanga Char village in the district town and transported her to Bulbul’s residence using a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
The convicts attempted to forcibly marry the victim to Ruku. Upon her refusal, they subjected her to severe physical assault with an electric cable and subsequently violated her in turns. The horrific ordeal continued as the perpetrators took the victim to Ruku’s house, where they again violated her.
The next day, on May 15, the victim managed to escape and sought refuge with her husband. A case was promptly filed with the Sadar Police Station, leading to the arrest and eventual conviction of the three offenders.
