Chattogram: Two construction workers lost their lives and two others were injured following a sudden landslide during excavation work for a WASA project on Agrabad Access Road in the port city this morning. The deceased workers have been identified as Tushar, aged 22, and Rakib, aged 25, both residents of Dinajpur district. The injured, Sagar and Ershad, are currently receiving medical treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tragic incident took place as soil was being excavated for a sewerage project under the supervision of Chattogram WASA and implemented by the Chinese contractor Sino Hydro (Hydro China company). During the excavation, a section of soil unexpectedly collapsed, burying the four workers beneath it.

Fellow workers acted swiftly to rescue the victims and transported them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that upon arrival, doctors declared Tushar and Rakib dead.

Chattogram WASA Supervisor Engineer Md. Ariful Islam verified that the excavation was part of a broader sewerage development project managed by the foreign contractor. Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek from the hospital police outpost reported that the injured workers are being treated in the hospital’s casualty ward.

Law enforcement agencies have stated that they are undertaking the necessary legal procedures in response to the incident.
