Dhaka: The two-day election to the executive committee of the Dhaka Bar Association for the 2026-2027 term is set to take place on April 29 and 30. Pro-BNP lawyers from the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel will contest under the Blue Panel, while candidates backed by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will compete under the Green Panel.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 21,731 voters are expected to cast their votes in this year’s election. Dhaka bar election Chief Election Commissioner Alhajj Md Borhan Uddin expressed confidence in the process, saying, “I expect the election will be 100 percent fair and transparent.”
In the election, Md Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan is vying for the presidency and Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan for the position of General Secretary from the BNP-backed Blue Panel. Other candidates from the Blue Panel include Senior Vice-President Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Vice-President Md Abul Kalam Azad, and Treasurer Mohammad Anisuzzaman Anis, among others. The panel also features candidates for various other positions and member posts.
Competing from the Jamaat-backed Green Panel, SM Kamal Uddin is running for President, with Md Abu Bakar as the General Secretary candidate. The Green Panel has fielded candidates for all executive roles, with Md Shahidul Islam running for Senior Vice-President and Md Lutfor Rahman Azad for Vice-President. The panel also includes candidates for member positions.
The Dhaka Bar Association election is a significant event, highlighting the active participation of legal professionals in the democratic process within the legal community.
